Pentecost

"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” Acts 1:8

Last Sunday was the feast of Pentecost, where we celebrated the birthday of the church! This day does not get as much attention as Christmas Eve or Easter, but it should. For it is on Pentecost where we see the culmination of Christ’s coming. In fact, this moment is such a big deal that Jesus tells his disciples that it is good for him to leave them, because when he leaves they will receive the Advocate, the Spirit who will give them power.

The promise of the Spirit is the promise that God has more for us. And for most of us, this is really good news because we need more. We need more of his power for our marriages, for our families, for our ministries, for our community. And Pentecost is the fulfillment of this promise.
