Ashes and New Life

Blow the trumpet in Zion; sanctify a fast; call a solemn assembly; gather the people. Sanctify the congregation… Joel 2:15-16a

Dear Friends in Christ,

Come join us for Ash Wednesday services today at 7AM, Noon or 7:30PM. It seems strange that we are drawn to this service that marks us with ash, reminding us of our sin and mortality. And yet we know that we need moments in our lives where we tell the sober truth about ourselves, about our limits and failings. There is more to the story, however, for we come to receive not only ashes, but absolution and the Holy Eucharist, the sacrament of communion with Christ and his church, celebrating Jesus’ victory over human sin and death, and giving to you and to me the grace of salvation.

Ash Wednesday tells the truth about our sin and mortality and the truth about the love of God in Jesus Christ, and the grace of the Holy Spirit to renew us in lent and every day. Come join in this renewal and walk the steps of a Holy Lent, preparing us with joy for the Easter Feast.

Yours in Christ,

-Tom
