Tuesday, March 4th @ 5:30pm

So, at this time, you may be asking: What is “Shrove Tuesday” and where did it come from? The word Shrove is derived from Shrive an old verb associated with making confession of sin in Lent, as a preparation in the season before Easter. Pancakes are traditional in a number of European countries on this day because eggs, sugar, and fat, commonly forbidden during the Lenten fast, are used up so they will not go to waste. This is where “Mardi Gras” comes from (French for “fat Tuesday,” the day before Lent begins on Ash Wednesday). Thus in some traditions, the Tuesday before Ash Wednesday is known as “Shrove Tuesday.”
