Adult Christian Formation Offerings at St. Peter & St. Paul – Fall/Winter 2018

Our mission is Growing Disciples of Jesus Christ. One of the ways we accomplish this is through adult Christian formation, the lifelong process of growing in our relationship with God, self, others, and all creation. We grow in prayer, scripture, service, and Christian fellowship, integrating our relationship with God into our daily lives. SUNDAY SCHOOL OFFERINGS- 9:15am to 10:15am 

How to Read and Understand the Bible
Led by: The Rev. Tom Pumphrey  Location: Parish Hall
Our Rector will make presentations on several topics through the year, starting with How to Read and Understand the Bible. The Bible is a complex and ancient text, filled with deep insights, and with puzzling passages hard to understand and apply to our lives. We will learn about different tools and approaches to understanding scripture. No preparation needed.

Women’s Sunday School Class
Facilitators: Kristi Story,JoAnne Gotschall,Cathy Schuman
Location: Room 7
We are studying the book of Isaiah using a Life Guide Bible Studies Guide by Howard Peskett. If you like to laugh, learn and meet an amazing group of women, please join us. 

Growing Christian Families Sunday School Class
Facilitators: John and Sara Clark  Location: Room 6
This class is for parents of young children (newborns through 5th grade). Do you ever wish that you could focus more on the bible readings in the service or have questions about them that you would like to discuss? Then this is the class for you! We will be studying the lectionary- the weekly bible verses that are read during the services, discussing them and applying them to our lives and our children. We are also creating great friendships and helping each other through this crazy and amazing time in our lives. 

Heroes of the Bible (starting on September 9th)
Facilitator: Jim Woodruff and John Patton Location: Room 8
Each week a different hero from the bible will be presented by the facilitator with some background material and bible verses for discussion. It is always amazing to see how God takes ordinary people and helps them accomplish “extraordinary feats”. Come join us and see the “Heroes of the Bible”. 

OPPORTUNTIES FOR STUDY AND FELLOWSHIP DURING THE WEEK

Friday Men’s Breakfast Bible/Book Study (Books for Biblical Christians)
Facilitators: Tom Mimms and Justin Streeter (meets year-round)
Time: 7:00am
Location: Egg’s Up Grill (at the intersection of Johnson Ferry and Shallowford Road in the Shallowford Corners Shopping Center, near Keegan’s)
Join us for coffee, fellowship and authentic community growing disciples of Jesus Christ. We are currently studying the Gospel of Mark using Mark-For Everyone by N.T. Wright as the study guide. 

Tuesday Evening Adult Bible Study
Facilitator: Amy Stillwell (amystillwell55@gmail.com or 770-364-3829)
Time: 7:00pm-8:00pm
Location: Room 7 (meets year-round)
Come exchange ideas with fellow disciples of Jesus Christ as we study the Gospel of John. Origen, the 3rd century Christian theologian from Alexandria called the Gospels the “first fruits of all scripture” and considered the Gospel of John the first of the fruits of the Gospels. All adults are welcome and there is no pre-reading assignment.

Tuesday Evening Education for Ministry (EfM)
EFM Mentor: Bernadette Watts (404.983.3272)
Time: 7:00pm-10:00pm
Location: Room 1 – involves significant reading and class preparation
EfM is a program of study developed by the School of Theology of the University of the South that involves study, theological reflection and worship. The course of study lasts 4 years, covering four subjects, respectively: Old Testament, New Testament, church history and modern theologians. ‘Golden Girls’ Bible Study

‘Wild Women of Wednesday’ Bible Study (begins September 9th)

Come join us and expect to participate in interesting, thought provoking conversations on some of the most beloved stories and images in the bible. All women are welcome!

Thursday Men’s Study Group

Time: 7:00am-8:00am
Location: Room 1 (meets year-round)
The Men’s Thursday Study Group studies various books of the Bible using a study guide from The Good Book series. We are currently studying the Gospel of Luke. 

Brotherhood of St. Andrew
Current directors: Chuck Matheson, John Patton, Justin Streeter, Jim Woodruff, and Larry Kelly
Time: Every other Saturday 7:00am-8:30am
Location: Garden Room (meets year-round)
All men are invited to meet with us every other Saturday for breakfast, fellowship and Bible study of the Sunday Gospel reading.

Daughters of the King

Time: 11:00am-1:00pm
Location: Garden Room (meets year-round)
The Daughters of the King is a spiritual order for Christian women both lay and ordained. The Daughters meet once a month all year round to pray together and study. We generally meet the third Saturday of the month. We are studying Fire in the Word by Chris Webb.
